The Longford Women's Manifesto Group recently invited members of Longford County Council to attend a meeting at Longford Women's Link to discuss issues around women's participation in decision-making procedures at local level. The meeting took place as a result of an inital presentation given to the County Council by the Manifesto Group earlier this year. In total, nine Councillors were in attendance on May 27th, representing all the electoral areas in the county.

A very productive meeting ensued with the Councillors agreeing to put forward a cross-party notice of motion that the Manifesto Group be represented on the SPCs and that they also be added to the list of consultees in relation to all future plans of Longford County Council.

The Manifesto Group would like to thank the Councillors for their attendance and for partaking in a very enjoyable and fruitful discussion. They would also like to thank Longford Women's Link, in particular Paula O'Connor, for all their support to date.

Councillors in attendance:

Cllr. Martin Mulleady (Drumlish)

Cllr. Gerry Brady (Drumlish)

Cllr. Paddy Belton (Ballymahon)

Cllr. Mae Sexton (Longford)

Cllr. Peggy Nolan (Longford)

Cllr. Padraig Loughrey (Longford)

Cllr. Alan Mitchell (Longford)

Cllr. Victor Kiernan (Longford)
