Education and training
Overview
Longford Women's Link works continuously to provide new models of delivery of education/training. All our ideas and projects are dependent on working in partnership with a range of state agencies and other non-governmental organisations. We value particularly our long history of partnership with County Longford VEC in working to combat women's educational disadvantage.
We work with women to enhance their confidence and skills in a group context. We prioritise the development of new models of training that are targeted at groups that would not normally get access to such opportunities.
We are committed to co-coordinating innovative approaches to out-reach and pre-development work so as to provide women with the necessary skills, self-confidence and knowledge to access relevant education and training.
All programmes are developed to enable progression to further education and training, source employment/self employment opportunities and to encourage participation in wider community activity.
Women's Community Education is about providing a supportive space where women are encouraged to learn, question and discuss issues of importance to them.
Research shows the positives effects that this method has had on women in terms of their opportunities to progress to further studies, the effects on their employment situation, their involvement in community, voluntary and political activity and underpinning all of these, their growth in confidence and personal development.
All training courses organised by Longford Women's Link are done in response to the needs of local women. They are held at times to suit women's caring roles and delivered in a women friendly, supportive atmosphere.
