Policy and Advocacy

Whereby we take issues from our day-today experience and seek to influence public policy to become more responsive to women's lives. We prioritise participation, networking and partnership work in order to build solidarity and influence change.

Goal

Engage with local regional and national decision-making structures in order to bring women's issues to the decision making table.

Build the capacity of Longford women to have a very clear analysis of the issues affecting them and to ensure that women are visible and actively participating in local community and economic development.

Objectives

Profile the work of the organisation in public fora and with individual politicians, policy makers and the media

Develop a county wide network of women's groups as a means of ensuring that women's experience at grassroots level can be translated into a collective voice to contribute to policy making

Represent the issues and concerns of women in the following fora:

• Longford Community Resources
• Longford County Development Board
• National Network of Women's Refugees and Support Services
• The National Women's Council
• National Collective of Community based Women's Networks
• Midland Health Board Regional Planning Committee on Violence against Women
• Midland Health Board Women's Health Advisory Committee
• Longford County Council Homeless Forum

Our goal of ensuring that women are visible and actively participating in local community and economic development is progressed by our support for the development of locally based women's groups .
